color, dots and stripes

Yesterday I received the holiday catalog from Cath Kidston and was inspired by all the lovely colors in it.  I love the homey coziness of her style and the cheerful color she uses.  I picked through my colored pencils and pulled out reds, blues, greens, pinks and purples just to play with color a bit.

Without thinking about any sort of design, I started with her name and then grouped colors, making dots as samples and labeling them with color names.  After that I added more and more dots and spots, just enjoying the colors.  One of my goals this month has been to play with my sketchbook in different ways, and this was certainly fun.  I think I might do something more deliberate with the colors, but I'm not sure what.

I've been progressing with my next crocheted purse.  I've really taken my time with this one, working on it in between other projects, but the crocheted part is finally nearing completion.

I attached one side and the other is ready to be sewn, too.  On the top of the photo you can see the two handles.  I'm a bit stumped as to how I want to finish the opening.  And I'm not sure about the lining.  I don't know what the right fabric is for this one.  I'll figure it out, but it might necessitate a trip to the fabric store.

On an non-crafty note, so far I am thrilled with my thrifted sweaters from the other day.  Yesterday I wore a stripey one.

I love the long cuffs.

I've been giving myself unspoken goals each day.  Today's?  Working on a new bracelet idea and playing with watercolors some more.  Everyone has been so encouraging about the painting I've been working on and I really appreciate that!  I think I might let it sit while I work on something else.  Maybe another version of the scene or maybe something else.

  1. Hi Anne,

So nice to discover your blog. I love how you describe it. Makes me smile. I love the fact that you can do such complex crochet. I learned once, put it down for the summer, and totally forgot how to do it. I love this photo. :-)

  5. The texture on you crochet purse is really great. It is not one that I have seen before. I have always wanted to crochet, I just haven't taken the time to learn.

  14. Thank you, everyone!! I appreciate hearing from all of you!

Yes, the purse is all crochet. At least so far. I'll be sewing some sort of lining for it. I, too, don't knit. I learned the basic knit stitch and would love to learn the more complex stuff, but for now I'm focused on crochet.

    All the best!
