snow!

Dovey woke me up again this morning by crawling all over me.  I guess she'll be my little alarm clock at the farm.  This time as she attempted to cross from my pillow to the windowsill I looked out and saw white, white, white.  It snowed!  I wasn't ready for snow a month ago when I was in Cleveland, but now, I am loving it.  It's so much more beautiful here at the farm.

First I just took photos out the windows because I was enjoying the snowy morning inside in my pajamas.  I couldn't resist photographing the birds again, too.

There are so many.  I want to put up a chalkboard somewhere by the back windows where we can keep track of what we see.  Today: downy woodpeckers, chickadees, juncos, a red bellied woodpecker, a white breasted nuthatch, goldfinches... I also heard some crows and saw some sort of large bird of prey that flew away too fast for me to identify.

When I ventured outside I took a LOT of photos.  That is between shoveling, sweeping and blowing the snow.  Mom wrote all about it on her blog.  Here she is using our new snowblower:

And my snowy photos?  Guess I'll risk overkill and take you with me on a tromp through the snow.

Those were taken from the balcony.  We shoveled and swept it off and are thinking about putting chairs out there so we can sit and watch the stars.  And looking back at the house:

And more snowy scenes:

And, of course, some Queen Anne's Lace:

I'm going to try to get outside and take photographs of some sort every day.  And I'm going to try to be better about art, too.  Since moving back to the farm I haven't really worked on projects as I had been doing every day.  Last night after I got into bed but before I started reading I made myself do some drawing.  I sketched out some ideas for fabric ornaments.  It's easy not to be creative, but picking up that sketchbook and pencil isn't really so hard and it doesn't really take a lot of time.  If I learned anything from AEDM, it should be that.  I need to figure out some sort of schedule for myself.  It's all a work in progress.

On a totally unrelated note... do you like beer?  A friend of mine just wrote to tell me about an article he wrote, the first from a new column dedicated to beer.  This first article is all about craft beers and also focuses on seasonal beers, so if you're looking for something good for the holidays (in beer form), this article might give you some ideas.  I'm looking forward to reading more of his articles, especially because he promises to write about homebrewing.

Tomorrow I want to try making a snowman!

  1. lovely snow photos! I wish we had a blower, J and I actually shoveled the snow from our 200 yard driveway today. But when there's two it's not so bad. We had fun.

I love you blog and am glad I found you through AEDM, too

  4. Lovely snowy shots - have you made that snowman yet?

And, speaking of beer - I used to work for a brewery! Sometimes I would find myself tasting the stuff and feeling rather lucky I was getting paid to do so!

  5. Most awesome snow angel. Spectacular snow pictures - I was going to name my favorite and realized as I scrolled thru they were all my favorites. LOVE LOVE LOVE that farm house. Thanks for the vicarious experience - I can wait. I'm a Jan and Feb snow person (oh, Dec 25 is ok too). We have winde today. And gray skies. Very winter. Perfect for what I want to do anyways: stay indoors by myself (with the dogs of course) since yesterday was out and about all day long.

  6. Love the snowy pictures, and the farm house too. You did some wonderful paintings during AEDM, so I hope you get back into the habit soon.

I really, really love your rose necklace on Etsy. Absolutely stunning!

I really want to do some more painting, too. Thanks for the encouragement, Sam. I need to force myself to sit down and do it. I hours just fly by when I'm painting and I really love it.
