Paint Party Friday, catching up

It's been a rough week, but I was determined not to miss a third Paint Party Friday.  Thanks for all the kind thoughts about my kitty.

This week I listed my first painting-related items in my Etsy shop.  I'd gotten the idea after creating a piece for Kat's TIC TOCC prompt a few weeks ago.  I really liked how it turned out and I wanted to keep playing with the words that I'd cut out of the catalogs.  I thought I could make some interesting pendants using watercolors, the cut up words and some pressed flowers.

I had a few difficulties (the papers and flowers were a bit thick for the frames), but all in all, I think they turned out well.

Feeling bad one day I painted a meditative abstract with acrylics.  It started out as one painting, but ended up becoming another heart of a rose.

The paint is layered very thick and I even used my fingers to spread the paint, something I hadn't done before.  My other abstract is waiting.  I worked a bit on it, too, but it doesn't look much different.

Always pulled back to watercolors, I spent some time working with them again.  I have another idea I'd liked to work through with my abstract, intuitive paintings.  I've been making more of them.  Here's the most recent:

I'm trying to figure out how I want to finish this one.  I'm thinking about using some pen and either writing some text on/around/over the painted image or doodling more images on/around/over it.  I think I need to let it stew a while.

I also worked on a couple more flower paintings.  In our west meadow there's a lone peony plant that makes me think there may have been a building there at one point.  The plant was late to bloom and I noticed the flowers still looked good the other night, so I picked one and brought it inside.

I should have known better than to try to paint such a complicated flower, but I tried anyway.

I worked on the first one a bit too much.  I like the lightness of the second flower better, but I like the first bottle better than the second.  I'm still learning and I'm glad I decided to use up my extra paint by painting the same subject a second time.

Finally, I was inspired by all of the radishes that I've been harvesting from the garden -- they're really beautiful -- so I started a radish painting.

My mind has been overflowing with creative ideas lately.  There just isn't time to work on them all.

  1. So many beautiful things to see in this post! I really like both peony paintings... I like the blurred lines of the first and I like the softness of the second - how great to see the same subject 2 different ways!

I'm looking forward to seeing your completed radish!

p.s. I know what you mean about not having enough time to work on all of the creative ideas in your head (although it can be frustrating, it's a fun problem to have) :)

  20. These pendants are great Anne! Two months ago I bought bunch of these on etsy with some seriously high fallutin ideas of papercuts that i was going to place inside. Now papercuts are nt an artform for the faint of heart and miniature ones? Fuggedaboudit. I must get off that crackpipe. Anyway you have inspired me to think up some new ideas for the pendants that I have

    Thanks!!!

  24. Thanks for coming by my blog....now I get to see these gorgeous watercolor frames you made. Love èm!....I really like blog....your chickens:) your art and awwwhhhhhh I read the post about your sweet kitty kat...she was beautiful and I was laughing at your stories about her....I still miss my kat and he has been gone since Christmas day six years ago and died at the sweet "old" age of a mere seven years old. No age for a cat either as all my other cats have lived to be 19 and 20 too. Maybe by now you have a new member of your family who is tearing the place apart?:)Wishes for a sunny week ahead.
