a few good things

How do you combat bad feelings?  Probably the best way for me is to focus on good things.  Maybe that sounds silly or simplistic, but it really does help once I can turn my thoughts in that direction.

One pretty awesome thing that happened recently (ok, not very recently, but within the last month) was that I won a wonderful giveaway.  I noticed an ad for Melina's shop on a site that I was considering advertising on, too.  Her jewelry caught my eye and I emailed her.  She wrote back right away and while she answered my questions, she also told me about a giveaway she was having on her blog.  She was giving away the winner's choice of a piece of jewelry from her shop.  It was nearly impossible to choose because I loved so many of her designs, but choose I did and I ended up winning the giveaway!

I love, love, love my new necklace and had to wear it right away and a number of times since then, too.  Check out her jewelry shop and her art doll shop, too.  She does great work.

Even better than winning jewelry was spending the weekend with some old friends.

Jenny and Alison came up for a visit this past weekend and we had a fun time together.  Being able to just be silly and to do things like eat a lunch of fried cheese curds, onion rings, popcorn and beer has a way of cheering a person up.  Thanks, you two, for being such good friends.

Finally, I've been working on some projects.  Slowly, but I'm ok with slow.

There are more, but I didn't photograph them.  I like working on a bunch of things all at once.  It makes for a messy work space, but right now I'm all by myself so it doesn't matter.

I've also been doing some writing.  It's good to take my feelings and turn them into something else.  Writing fiction gives me an outlet.  It lets me dwell in the lives of people who are even more messed up than I am.  And it gives me the power for happy endings, or not.

Thanks, again, to all of you who have been so supportive, encouraging and kind to me while I've been struggling.  It really means a lot to me.

I TOTALLY get this, especially now in dealing with my father dying.

Love the blackbird necklace and your projects are coming along beautifully. Made me smile this afternoon. :)

  4. Yep, I agree! Granted, easier said then done sometimes but if you can slowly move towards that, even that is great. I also like to remember that old saying, "This too shall pass". Even in good times, I like to remember that to try and appreciate it. And visiting with good friends always, always, always helps!

  6. Hi Anne, what beautiful crochet you do! Love those soft pink flowers. Thanks for visiting my blog :) Making art is a wonderful way to get through the tough times. I also give myself flowers (from the garden or supermarket) to infuse myself with energy. When I see them it interrupts any negative thoughts and replaces them with peace. Keep calm and carry on :)
