paint party friday
Today is the very first Paint Party Friday and I am so excited to be taking part. Kristin and Eva are hosting it and lots of others are joining in on the fun. Go check it out!
I'm still working on some paintings I began during Get Your Paint On. I'm enjoying acrylics, but as I've mentioned before, they are hard for me to work with. I have some paintings that I've layered and layered and layered and am still not happy with what's happening. I know that's all part of the process, but it can be frustrating. Like this painting:
I've already gessoed it and started over once already. I keep changing the color palette. Sometimes the roses are all the same color and sometimes each one is a different color. I guess that's one of the good things about acrylics, I can just keep painting over what I don't like.
And then there are paintings that I feel that I can't touch. Like this one:
I tried working on it today, but I couldn't. A painter friend of mine once told me that one of the keys to painting is not to get too attached to what you're working on. I guess I'm too attached to this one. I've considered adding some more colors. I've considered painting some tiny crows in the foreground and one or two flying. I've considered adding a face on the bottom half, but somehow I just can't do it. So this just sat while I worked on the frustrating flowers and a couple other things.
Another bunch of flowers:
I'm thinking of adding some text on the top left. I had a brainstorm the other night when I was thinking about the painting, but can I remember what words I had in mind? Nope.
I also worked on another drippy painting:
Not sure where to go next with this one, but I've discovered that I definitely love making paint drips.
Hooray for Paint Party Friday. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

I like all of these paintings. To me they look like finished pieces. I love the drips of various colors. Thanks. Hope you are having fun visiting the PPF participants. I am. :) Take care, enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI almost missed your PPF post cause it wasn't yet on the Mr Linky widget (I probably hadn't refreshed the page in a while).
ReplyDeleteI love how you've been so busy painting & have shared your works in progress. That painting you can't add anything to is lovely as it is so I can see how you may be afraid to add anything that may alter that. Something may come to you, just keep looking & wait until you're convinced of an idea. I love the pink swirly flowers on the turquoise background - such a lovely colour combination.

Hi there...I really like your color pallet on all these pieces. I've never worked with acrylics so I can only image the level of difficulty...keep going.
ReplyDeleteOBTW.....I loved reading your story about beginning a new life on a farm...took some courage!

I love those roses! They are so pretty. I always have a notebook for when inspiration strikes. I have them everywhere around the house because I hate when I think of something and then by the time I get around to it I forget.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful..a wonderfully inspiring post..love the energy and spirit to your work...the colors are also so soothing and uplifting!!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!

The pink and blue color combo just calls to me. I think you have a great start with all of your paintings. I love the roses. I love getting that advise "don't get too attached" I still don't know how to do that!
ReplyDeleteWell! it comes to experiencing again and again, an artist can never stop playing his work, I have to hide to forget them
ReplyDeleteYou know it takes a special person to see beyond what's in front of them. You took that leap into a different direction; scary at times because we need shelter and food to survive but with faith and each other we can achieve much.I do believe you look at your paintings with the same light as you do with your life; sometimes not everything is visible and needs to be studied furthered, eventually you'll find the answer. To me, I think the roses and grass are just lovely and perfect.
ReplyDeleteIn time all will become one for in nurturing a living from the land, the land in return will gift you with treasures of life and inspirational sustenance enabling you and your mom to live your dreams. I do believe Country Life is hard but worth it in the end if one is prepared for the work. I wish and pray for your success.
p.s. A suggestion on the grass painting....why not add cut out images placing them here and there without glue...this might encourage you to explore combinations of art mediums you could fuse together to create one image. I do that a lot and helps me in constructing a composition.
Hope this helps.

These are all intriguing starts Anne! I am excited to see where they will lead you! (Sometimes the paint brush seems to take over once it touches the painting...)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us and great to meet you! Looking forward to seeing your progress next week!
Your roses are very pretty. Love the pinks and oranges there inthe first one...I really love the last group of roses with the turquoise and pink, too!....i like how the flowers are grouped together. Text would definitely add some whimsy, to them - would love to see how you finish all of these!! nice to meet you through PPF
ReplyDeleteThese are fun, happy paintings. Love the cabbage roses, at least that's what they look like to me. The drips are nice also. That is what painting is for to have fun and enjoy oneself and not take it too seriously, if it wasn't that way why would anyone bother.
ReplyDeleteANNE: YOU are SO creative. I want to stay here all night! Love the drippy painting, love the rose, love your etsy items ... going to make a cup of creme carmel coffee with coconut cream and stroll thru the rest of your blog. Would LOVE to quit my job and help my Mom start a little farm. Wish my Mom was still alive! Girl don't give up follow your dreams! LOVE your work!
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful colors and great starts... I love the idea of text (I'm sure you'll find just the right words!)
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous post... I'm sure we can all relate!
Thanks for joining in the fun (I look forward to seeing where you're at next week)!

I see you got some fabulous suggestions from the comments, love your roses.
ReplyDeleteI think the roses look good as they are now. The blue one is gorgeous and to me it really doesn't need anything, I love it just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you at the party! :D
ReplyDeleteI´ve mostly used acrylics to stamp with foam stamps. What is it that you find difficult?
you sure know your colors, I love the richness of them all. Some may change some may not!
ReplyDeleteI agree that these look like finished paintings. They allow the viewer to use their imagination. I especially like the second piece, as it reminds me of an underwater ocean scene, with plants swaying in the current. Very nice work!
ReplyDeleteHello, Anne! I think your paintings look great the way they are, and if they want you to give them more, they will let it be known :) I love your roses and the amazing bag you crocheted on the antique sofa. Happy to meet you at the Paint Party!
ReplyDeleteI think we all feel our work is never done, sometimes just put it away for awhile and come back with a fresh approach later!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne, I love the colours that you have used... I was amazed to see "Get your paint on" on your blog... I put those words in my sketch... had no idea where I'd come up with that... must have seen it here whilst visiting and then they just jotted themselves down in my work... And there was me thinking I'd come up with it all by myself....glad you came to the party...
ReplyDeleteThat second piece is trying to tell you that it is finished. Don't overwork it. It looks lovely the way it is :D
ReplyDeleteKeep at it. You're creating great stuff.
Nutty
(I wanna paint too)
I am loving your colors especially your drippy drips- fabulous! Sometimes when you can't decide what to do next on a piece, it means it's finished. I personally like it the way it is. I looks like a very well done abstract to me :)
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF- a day late ;)
Stephanie
Oh, and there is nothing wrong with being attached to your work- that's usually how artists are able to add life and passion to their work!
ReplyDeleteMaybe that second painting is trying to tell you that it is finished, and that is why you can't work on it. It looks wonderful to me just as it is. If you are afraid to touch it but not convinced it is finished, you could do some digital work on the photograph. Try some of your ideas and see if any of them add to the work, before putting your paint brush to it.
ReplyDeleteAll of your paintings are wonderful! I especially LOVE the second one. I also think it's finished. Like you, I love the drippies, too. Sometimes I'll just have a drippy painting going and when I get frustrated I'll just add more drips to it. All colors. Whatever I'm working on at the time.
ReplyDeleteNot getting attached to your work is a hard thing to learn; I am still not there. :)
What pretty paintings. Lovin your bunches of flowers and the colors!
ReplyDeleteThank you so, so much for all of your comments and suggestions. They mean so much to me.
ReplyDeleteI like all the paintings just they way they are... abstractish... the dripping paint one is fascinating. How can someone not love the roses. I think they are all done, especially the one you don't want to touch because you are attached - it is done! I like it!
ReplyDeletecheers, dana
WoW 4 paintings!
ReplyDeleteI am always attached to my work, I always need to feel passion in the piece I am working on...hmmm...
I love your color palette...turquoise and pinks are so beautiful together :)
