Paint Party Friday!
It was another full week. Just sped right by. And now Friday is almost over but I'm determined not to miss the party.
I managed to fit some painting in throughout the week. First some watercolor. I cut some flowers and started doing some sketches.
Lily of the valley and bleeding heart. I worked on the lily of the valley first.
And even practiced more painted text.
Not my favorite painting, but I enjoyed the practice. The bleeding heart was more frustrating. Here's where I left it.
I don't really like how this paper reacts to the paint. Maybe it would work better if I stretched the paper first. I thought it was a heavy enough weight of paper, but maybe not. I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this painting or just let it go. I could talk myself into either.
To use up leftover paint and to loosen up a little, I made some more dots on paper scraps and did a little intuitive painting.
I really enjoyed how freeing that was, just letting the paint flow. And because I needed a little more letting go, I worked on the acrylic abstract that I started last week.
I added paint. I rubbed paint off. I let it drip and smoothed it out and let it drip some more. At times I worried that I'd ruined it and at times I thought I hadn't. Even when I thought I might have, it didn't really upset me. It's still in progress and I'm liking this slow process. I'm toying with the idea of using some collaged elements and I'm contemplating what color(s) I want to add next.

Your delicate leaves and lily of the valley are beautiful, and I really like your paint writing. Love the colors on your abstract.
ReplyDeletei love your lily of the valley! Delicate and understated just as it should be! Dont quit on the bleeding heart yet...I find that if you walk away from a paiting and then return it ends up just the way you want it... And dont fret if you dont like it...another pair of etes will often love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne. Thx for stopping by my blog. I like the way you take one step at a time and how you practice. Your ideas resonate with me. I love your delicate leaves and the lily of the valley is great too. I agree with art2cee2 to walk away and just leave it alone for a bit. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are coming along wonderfully! Don't quit! waiting to see how your acrylic one comes out. happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThat simple green leaf to the twig and the letter is a nice work....Saludos
ReplyDeleteI love the lilly of the valley image and the dots. It is so fun to just let go, no?!
ReplyDeleteand.. WHAT is in the background? Is that a serving tray turned chalk board? I'm in love!
Your flowers are lovely, the leaves of the lilly of the valley looked so real. Happy PPF, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI love how you push yourself to practice. :) Lovely pieces. Happy PPF!

ReplyDeletePrettiness, I love the leaves on your flowers! The acrylic is very cool!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Lily of the Valley, so delicate. Also love your free style painting, its wonderful how the colours swirl around each other in harmony. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteI love to just let it go when I paint or create whatever kind of art. It frees up, just like you said.
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful fauna & I had a flash of Jackson Pollack looking at your spiral drip intuitive work, love the gentle colours :)
ReplyDeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteI really like all of your work. I am drawn to the lily most and the lovely little intuitive paintings.
It's great to just let go and let whatever wants to be born...be.
As much as I LOVE lily of the valley its your intuitive water colour that I really like ♥ Rosie
ReplyDeleteHi, You Lily of the valley is very lovely, It is fun to do botanical paintings. I think you should finish your bleeding heart as the start is gorgeous. If your paper is warping I read where someone ironed it (I would put a towel or press cloth over it first) You might try that and then stretch it before you continue painting.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. (all your pics) I am so wanting to play with this medium! It's always been intimidating to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF
LOVE the Lily of the Valley Anne and the silver tray on the wall with your words of insipration - did you repurpose that yourself? Very Nice! My Bleeding Hearts are gone already ... they are so beautiful and are only here for such a short time, don't give up on them yet! Happy PPF, even into Sunday:)
ReplyDeleteWow, you really did have a Paint Party! I love your process and your results!
ReplyDeleteLove the beauty and simplicity of your lily of the valley, Anne. And the bleeding hearts are coming along nicely! Looking forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteoh I absolutely LOVE your last painting in progress...feels like I'm being drawn into an illuminesent vortex (if such a thing exists!!?) :)
ReplyDeleteLove the layers and the colours and the swirl...aaaah it definitely sings to my soul!
Oooh and your little goat friend from your other post...how sweeeet..now I will definitely think of you when I see my girl and goat painting! step away from the balloons :) xx
I think the intuitive painting really suits you Anne. It is so expressive.
ReplyDeleteYour botanicals are so delicate and pretty. You might want to try a different brand of wc paper if you aren't happy with what you have. There are big differences in some of it even in the same weights.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love to watch you experiment and play... so, so wonderful :)
