Summery sketches of flowers from the garden. Overflowing pots and beds in the garden. Daily garden eating. There's a theme running through my days. I've been trying to remind myself to be conscious of the fleeting nature of my garden and its bounty, to remember those cold, dark days of winter when I can't just slip out the back door and come in with armloads of basil and tomatoes and flowers.

Oh, and that bowl of summer eating? It makes me think of this Julia Child quote:

"You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces -- just good food from fresh ingredients."

It was simply thrown together. Onion, yellow zucchini, garlic, tomatoes, jalapeño sautéed, each ingredient added one by one in that order. I stirred in a generous helping of fresh basil and a sprinkling of salt and pepper and topped it with toasted polenta and fresh mozzarella pearls. And it was so good. A perfect summer meal. Not fancy. Not complicated. But fresh and delicious.

Wishing you many simple pleasures this weekend.
