Joy List Monday

I've been doing a lot of writing lately. For some projects. In my journal. Emails. And it feels as if I don't have any words leftover. I certainly don't feel like I have any words of wisdom to add to the conversations going on lately.

But I do have a reminder of joy. Joy, just joy (and love and hope and gratitude...).

Joy List Monday:

a weekly ritual
a reminder to stop and pay attention to the little beauties and graces that make life magical and to set aside time for gratitude each day

I hope you'll be inspired to write your own Joy List.

Here's mine:
  • Some good news (the kind you just can't quite believe that makes you want to jump up and down).
  • The first ripe tomatoes of the summer.
  • Perfect weather.
  • Making spaghetti sauce with herbs from the garden, various leftovers from the freezer and a can of crushed tomatoes while drinking wine and listening to music. And then being able to eat a spaghetti dinner with Matthias in the dining room.
  • Regular hummingbird visitors, finally.
  • Painting.
  • Notes from friends.
  • Thunderstorms with soft rain.
  • Dog snuggles.
  • Chocolate.
  • The sunflower plants in my garden growing taller and taller.
  • Heather Ross's memoir, How to Catch a Frog
  • Sketching in the garden.
  • Portulaca flowers in every color of the rainbow (almost).
  • Fireflies, bats and a perfect crescent moon.
portulaca, watercolor, watercolor sketches, botanical watercolor, botanical sketches, botanical sketchbook, sketchbook, Anne Butera, My Giant Strawberry

I hope your week is filled with many little joys.

  1. Love that little flower - is it a moss rose or??? I planted nasturtium and remembered nick them with a nail file. A couple volunteer violas showed up in last year's planter and lots of other fun little joys.

    1. Hi, Madeline. Yes, it's a moss rose, or Portulaca. Glad you have nasturtiums an violas in your garden. My nasturtiums aren't blooming yet, but I do have lots of violas and many other bits of joy. :)

    1. I know. I probably shouldn't have teased you all like that as I can't share it for quite a while. :)

  3. If ever there were a time to be fully present, this summer certainly is. I am finding challenges and balm in many places. Even at 60, I can feel myself growing. It is hard, but exhilarating. Light, love, hope and hard work. Lovely to read your joy list. Like Hedgerow Rose, I am intrigued by the good news. xo

    1. Light, love hope and hard work. Love that.

We should all continue to grow and learn no matter what our age. And there are always chances for fresh starts. With every breath as you remind me. But I also like Anne Shirley's thought about tomorrow being fresh with no mistakes.

Wishing you more balm than challenges. xo
