doodles and more roses

Inspiration strikes in many guises.  For a while I've been thinking that I'd like to play around with some embroidery, partly because I found such a cool embroidered piece at the salvation army in February.

Actually, playing with embroidery is one of the goals I set for myself at the beginning of AEDM. Yesterday I spent some time on Amy Butler's website, checking to see if she'd updated anything about her new fabric line.  She had.  Now there are some lovely photos of her actual fabrics in clothing, pillows, quilts, etc.  Well, nestled in that gorgeous slideshow of images was an image of an embroidered bird and some flowers.  That brought back the desire to play with embroidery.  I haven't yet gotten out the needle and embroidery thread, but I did get out pencil and paper.

I doodled and doodled.  I have no idea if I'll be able to translate any of this into actual embroidery (yet another medium in which I have no idea what I'm doing), but it was fun playing with images.

I'm still enjoying the roses from my garden and after my morning walk I cut more of them to enjoy inside.

The roses on my work table have opened even more, too.

I love David Austin.  Fat roses that smell good.  What's better than that.  Hey, I could be obsessed with worse things.

  9. Your ideas & doodles look really interesting. There are so many beautiful pictures within this one page.

Like you I'm interested in embroidery but I have no real idea what I'm doing. Recently I did an embroidery doodle on paper. I made the holes in the thick paper with a pricking tool and then used embroidery threads. It was basic but I enjoyed. Its posted somewhere on my blog, last month I think. I try and just sew a little in my art journal and embroidered my friend's name on her Birthday card. Small steps with really simple projects.

  11. Don't roses make everything better? :) I found the most wonderful recipes using rose water and such over at: http://desertcandy.blogspot.com/

And I love your doodles -- especially the birds -- will be so fun to see if/how it translates for you into thread!!

  12. Small steps with really simple projects is the way to go. I was thinking my first embroidery project will be a simple one, but sometimes I'm not so good at limiting myself.

Thanks for the recipe link. I'd like to try some rosewater recipes. I have some rose flavored tea (that I bought at the rose garden in Portland, OR... so beautiful) that I save for special occasions. Little rose cookies would go nicely with it.

    Thanks for the comments!
