more progress

My painting and crochet went well yesterday.  First I worked on the faint blue wash, adding a foreground.  I like the way it turned out and I'm not sure what else I want to do with it.  At first I wanted it to be another Queen Anne's Lace picture, but the hill is too far away for what I had in mind.

Funny how paintings go their own way.

Next I worked on that other sky.

This one probably will be another Queen Anne's Lace painting, though perhaps I'll paint some blooming flowers instead of just skeletons and seedheads.

I did play around with a couple more closeups of the flower skeletons, too.

(I like the way real flower looks stuck into the spool of thread -- sorry Mom for stealing your thread).

The sun was streaming in the windows and it felt so good to be basking in it while I painted.  I also surrounded myself with more roses, so between the sunshine and the fragrance of the roses, I could have stayed there all day (and I pretty much did).

There's a view of the beginnings of a painting of rosehips that I started.

The painting that I had the most trouble with was one of a rose flower.

The first couple petals looked really nice when I first started, but then as I tried to give the flower more of a shape and definition, it all took on a rather uniform color.  There were some really pretty peachy tones that I lost as I blended the paint.  But it was a learning experience, and as I've stated before, I really do not know what I'm doing (I'm not being disparaging of myself, I'm just being honest.  I have no training in watercolors.  I want to learn more.  Does anyone have a recommendation of a good book for me to work with?  Or suggestions of a good website -- I haven't looked around online for any watercolor information).  I really want to paint more flowers and I think the next step will be to pull out one of my big sheets of watercolor paper and practice flower after flower after flower, getting a good feeling for how the paint works and attempting different ways to get the results I'm after.

I did finish the crochet project that I'd been working on.  It became a necklace.

I'm happy with how it turned out.

And here's a peek at the flowers I mentioned:

I keep modifying the rose design to get slightly different looks.  I hope to finish this project in the next day or so.
