back

I'm back at the farm after having a lovely Christmas with Matthias.  We didn't really do very much.  Didn't go as many places as we'd talked about, but we were enjoying staying at home and being together and really, what's better than that (especially when you get to stay in pjs!)?

I spent most of any "project" time working on a scarf for Matthias and an ill-fated hat (also a present for him) that I have yet to finish (I need to rip it apart and start over).  I did play with some of my buttons turning over ideas in my head as I picked up the buttons and turned them over in my fingers.  I could sort buttons or stones or other such things (shells, beachglass) for hours and hours.

Jerome helped me take the photo.

(It cracks me up that my lens cap is on the floor.  I think I dropped it and didn't feel like getting down off the chair to retrieve it).

Jerome also liked sleeping under the Christmas tree.

As did Talula.  She probably started it, actually.  He does whatever she does and wants whatever she wants.

I love those kitties and miss them a lot.  And I miss Holden, too.  Poor old boy spent most of his time sleeping on his blanket on the sunporch.

I didn't take many photos during my visit.  I meant to take some on my walks, but one time the camera batteries were dead and then on another walk my fingers were too cold to extract from my mittens.  It just wasn't meant to be.

It's strange to be back.  The wrenching of leaving the farm and then the wrenching of leaving Matthias to come back is a lot harder than I ever imagined it would be.  Right now I'm not sure how to get back into the swing of things.  And my dad is coming up to the farm tomorrow to celebrate New Year with us so "normal" won't be in the cards just yet.  I need to let go a bit and enjoy myself instead of worrying about what I should be doing.  But it's just that I am so full of ideas.  I don't want to lose them and I don't want to lose my momentum.

  1. I can imagine how jarring it must be, Anne, but I hope you can relax and enjoy your cozy farmhouse. Your photo of the buttons made me laugh because I enjoy doing that too - sorting buttons, beads or trims. It's fun to enjoy fingering them and imagining how they could be used.
Here's wishing you a very happy New Year, Anne.

  3. In the immortal words of Louis Armstrong "we have all the time in the world!"...though I do have to remind myself of this ALL the time! Glad you had a wonderfully relaxing Christmas, I hope you have a fantastic and magical 2011 :)

  4. Anne, It was so nice that you were able to spend Christmas with Matthias and have his Birthday with him also. Leaving the farm and then having to leave him to return had to dreadfully stink. I am not sure how well I could handle that if I was in the same position. So I feel your pain. I sure hope that you will be able to have him at the farm soon and then you won't have to leave really anything anymore. Except maybe your old house. But that seems alot less wrenching compared to everything else! I can't wait to see what you have been up to to the farm! So are theyr'e any cool plans for New Years?
