loving furry and feathered friends

I am grateful every day for the animals in my life.  Right now Jerome and Bertam keep me company.

Jerome is almost always on the bed.  And he especially likes to snuggle with us at night.

Bertram spends his days on the sun porch which is part conservatory and part studio.

Sometimes the music I listen to while I work inspires Bertram to start singing, too.  Most recently I noted that he likes Philip Glass.  He is one sweet bird, always cheerful and so adaptable.  He's had various cages in various sizes over the years.  He's traveled with me to and from the farm (and in the old days he used to come with us every time we visited family).  He's nearly 10 years old and although he doesn't sing quite as much as he did in his youth, his happy chirps and trills always make me smile.

I've mentioned before that we miss having a dog in the house.  The house does seem lonely without a dog and walking and hiking is definitely not the same without a leash in my hand and poop bags in my pocket.  Matthias and I are working on adding some doggies to our family, but in the meantime I've been loving visits with our little friend Frankie.

Did I say "some doggies"?  Yep, I sure did.  We want to have two dogs this time around, but we haven't made a final decision about what two kinds of dogs we want.  At least one will be a retired racing greyhound, though.  I started the adoption process a little over a week ago and we had our interview and kennel visit yesterday.

We had a wonderful time meeting the dogs and talking to the volunteers at Greyhound Adoption of Ohio

The dogs are so sweet.

I'm so glad we'll be giving one (or two!) a home.  It's not going to happen quite yet (it's hard to be patient!), but I'm sure I'll be writing lots more about the dogs and about the process in the coming weeks.

Until then, thank you, Jerome and Bertram for sharing my life.  Thank you, Frankie for being a sweet little ball of doggie love (and for being so willing to always share that love with me!).  And many thanks to Greyhound Adoption of Ohio and all the other greyhound rescue organizations for helping to give these wonderful dogs a second chance.

  3. It's 1.13am here in the UK and I can't sleep because of medication changes & other boring such things. But I strongly felt I needed to visit your blog. I've not been well enough to spend much time on the net but I really wanted to visit you. So I've been catching up on your last few posts and wanted to stop by and say hi! And to say thank you for your super lovely and supportive comments on my blog. I wish we lived closer and could visit cause I know we'd be great friends offline too.

Your plans for expanding your family sound really exciting and I feel really happy for you. I look forward to seeing photos of the new members to your family soon. I bet you can hardly wait.

Also, congrats and good luck with your new job. I'm not sure what your job is (may have missed that somewhere) but I'm sure you'll do great and once you get used to the new routine it'll be easier to fit in more creative time.

Anyhow, big hugs to you. Say hi to Matthias and your furry and feathered friends.

    Kat Xx

  7. I have a house full of furry and feathered kids. Life would be so empty without them. A friend of mine had an adopted retired greyhound and she was the sweetest thing. xo

  12. What a cute butterball of a bird and softie of a cat you currently share your home with. And how lucky are the dogs you plan to adopt - they're sure to love every inch of your home and neighborhood.
