furniture makeovers

Sometimes I am incredibly slow at re-doing thrifted or trash-picked furniture finds. That was certainly the case for my cedar chest and it also took me a while to decide on a color for the cabinet in the dining room. Remember it?

I actually finished painting it a while ago, but then I had trouble deciding what color to paint the mirror I'd ended up hanging above it. The same color, a different color? Warm, cool? White? I simply could not decide. Until I finally got annoyed with myself for letting the mirror sit on the work table unfinished for so long. I grabbed the paint I'd used for the cedar chest and finished it in a few days.

Now I have a bright and happy corner. I LOVE the cabinet and its new color, but I'm not 100% sold on the mirror's color. No big deal, really, because it's easy enough to change. If I can ever make up my mind, that is.

I kept waffling about the color of little wall cabinet I'd found at a flea market, too.

It looks like it used to house a clock, but the mechanism is long gone. I asked Matthias to make some shelves for it which he happily did using leftover wood and his beloved miter saw, but he was no help deciding on a color. I knew I wanted to hang it in the kitchen, but I wasn't sure what color would be best against the bright green wall.

Now to decide what to put in it...

  5. When you snatched up that cabinet moments before I saw it at the flea market in town, I was sorry you got to it first. But seeing it now, I know it was always destined for your home. Love the way you redid it, Anne. Kudos to the shelf maker, too.
