lately
Around here it's been secret missions.
And a crazy snowstorm.
(Which left us without power for about 36 hours).
But mostly, it's been packing.
Because about a month and a half ago we decided that we were going to take a leap and move forward with our dreams. Our dreams of living more sustainably, self-sufficiently. Of moving out of Cleveland. Of moving to "the country".
It's been a bit of a bumpy ride. Finding housing. Having it fall through. Finding a job and having that fall through, too. There have been tears. There have been more than a few sleepless nights. My parents have been working so hard to help us find a place to live and their hard work has paid off. In just a few days we will be moving. Not yet to our dream farm, but into a charming house in town. The little town near my parents' farm.
There's still plenty of uncertainty (we have no jobs!). But we are ready for a change and excited to be moving forward. Excited to live near my parents for more frequent, casual visits and shared projects. Excited to have a new house and garden to enjoy. Excited to embark on a new adventure.
But packing is such a lot of work.
And then there are all of the churned up emotions of leaving the city where we've lived for the last 15 years, the house we've lived in for 9 1/2. Friends. My garden. Familiarity.
I look forward to blogging about my new adventure, but it might be a while before I get into a rhythm here.
What about you? What have you been up to lately?

ReplyDeleteYou make your places bloom and that will always be with you.
Wow! You are going through some major changes Anne. I will miss seeing your lovely home and rose garden but look forward to seeing your new abode. I bet your Mum and Dad will love to have you so nearby. Good luck with your exciting new venture!
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely wonderful!!! I look forward to reading all about your transition.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your vision.
:-)
They say "leap and the net will appear." Please, let us know if that's true . . . all the best to you, I know this is what you have wanted for so very long. PS don't forget to pack some of your treasured plants from the yard!
ReplyDeleteYou asked what we'd been up to - encouraged by your crafting & painting I have been preparing for a craft sale which will be held at our church on Sunday morning after service. No entry fee (yay). I have been sewing, crocheting, making jewelry and planning my displays. I have drawn on your past blog posts for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the packing, moving and job hunt. I look forward to reading about your new home and adventures. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. Your gorgeous garden, you're leaving that?! Ha ha... I can relate, when we moved to our current and hopefully last home, I didn't give my then current garden a second thought. I knew I got to do it all over again and even better. Although I still miss my fantastic sunroom there, I had a jungle growing in there. I know you'll do great, have fun!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting and nerve-wracking, difficult yet delicious! You are embarking on your dream lifestyle and that's something to cheer about. You have a great team to help you through the hard parts (husband, pets, parents). I can't wait to read here about your new home, garden and lifestyle. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteAnne, I am so excited for you and Matthias, and how wonderful for your parents! I admire you for taking the leap and I wish you lots and lots of happiness. Hope you'll find time to post a photo here and there to let us know how you're doing.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs coming to you across the miles!
