painting orchids

For many of you it's not a surprise that I've been painting orchids because you've seen them here, here and here. Even if you haven't you're probably not surprised if you read my blog at all. Orchids have been showing up a lot lately. With them all over my house, it was only a matter of time before they would be enlisted as models in my studio.

In truth, I was a little nervous about painting such a weirdly shaped flower. If you really look at a phalaenopsis flower, you'll see that it is kind of strange. I did a couple sketches, but was hesitant to start on a large painting. I had failed with orchids in the past. So I started with a small test of just one flower.

And I think I got hooked.

Now, what next while I'm waiting for more flowers to open?

  1. Beautiful job!!

BTW, how did you do that fabric scrap wall? I love it!! Amy Butler fabric is gorgeous.

How about painting winter berries? They are about the only thing with color out there, it seems. :(

Love your blog! You make me want to try painting.

    1. Thank you, Sarah! The "wall" is the back of my cabinet desk that I covered not with fabric, but with scrapbooking papers. Most is Amy Butler, but some pieces are also wallpaper samples and contact paper.

      Definitely try painting! :)
