Thinking Valentines Thoughts

I'm not generally one to rush the calendar. Usually I'm dragging my feet as time speeds forward. Shocked by how early the next holiday's items appear in the store. Maybe I'm a bit of a curmudgeon. So I guess my thinking about Valentine's Day in January is a bit of an anomaly. Though, truth be told, I have a fondness for Valentine's Day. I like the idea of a holiday dedicated to love. Sure it can be a bit cheesy, but I like it anyway. Its colorfulness and flowers are antidotes to the dreariness of winter. They make me think of springtime. And I like hearts. And cupcakes.

I always enjoyed picking out packages of Valentines for my classmates when I was a kid. Do I choose Snoopy or Care Bears or Cabbage Patch Kids? I also made plenty of my own with doilies and construction paper. Didn't you?

This year, for the first time in quite a while I made some Valentines of my own.

But they're not just for me. I'm giving them to YOU.  They're available for free on my website.

Print them on a sheet of letter sized paper (I used cheapo cardstock and printed them on my standard printer and they came out nicely). Turn the paper over to print the other side. And then cut the page into four Valentines.

A paper trimmer works best for this, but you could use a ruler and a blade if you don't have a trimmer. Simply cut the paper in half and in half again.

Fold the Valentines in half and close with a bit of washi tape or a pretty sticker.

And then give them to the special somones in your life.

What about you? Do you have a soft spot for Valentine's Day?

  2. These are wonderful designs Anne and very kind of you to share. Valentine's in the UK is generally only celebrated, romantically, by couples. Saying that, I don't think me and my husband celebrate it any more which is quite sad. I think I may have to print off your lovely art work and give it to him to sign for me! I hope that you have a romantic Valentine's day with hearts, roses and chocolates!

We try to do something fun as a family on Valentine's Day. Last year we celebrated by going to the Lego Movie.

  7. I loved Valentine's Day as a kid, making our Valentine's Mail Boxes at school out of shoe boxes, decorated with.tissue paper, paper doilies, ribbons and construction paper hearts. I can still picture them and my friends slipping valentines through the slot cut out in the top. One year I asked my late husband if he would buy me one of those cheesy red satin heart candy boxes filled with chocolates. He thought it was so funny and cute that he did it! I think it was a Whitman's Sampler from the town's drug store. Hah! It was a lot of fun. I love your printables. Thanks. ~ Nancy
