a triptych on a hot and steamy friday

It's been hot and steamy these last few days. This is our third summer here and in general I'd say that the stretches of heat don't seem to last as long in Wisconsin as they did in Chicago or Cleveland. This year we've had quite a few cool/cold days, too.

This is the first place we've lived that has air conditioning and although we rarely use it, I'm grateful we have the option on days with humidity like this. It feels so luxurious.

I'm still busy putting my class together for Skillshare (thanks again for your kind words of encouragement on my first stab at video!). I'm going to end up re-filming the intro for better audio and because it needs to be shorter... all part of the learning experience. My focus has been fairly narrow this week, but I thought I could pull together a triptych of non-video joys even so.

Dill in my garden that's 7? 8? feet tall.

With my ripening cucumbers and newly harvested garlic, I'm almost ready to make some pickles.

Books.

I'm determined to make some time for more soap making this year (most of the recipes in the above book are a bit complicated, but I might try one of the simpler recipes. They're all beautiful).

Plus, flowers and the newest Tovah Martin book, I'll always say yes.

This plant.

It's lemon mint, not a true mint but rather a Monarda (bee balm). I bought a tiny plant at Seed Savers Exchange's spring plant sale because when I'd visited their gardens last fall I was captivated by the beauty of the dead stems of the plant. I made note of the name and put it on my list to try. My tiny plant did nothing for at least a month and then one day it was huge and filled with flowers (on their website they say it will grow 24-30 inches tall... mine is more like 40).

Patience. That really is the key.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

  1. Your plants are towering above you Anne! I'd love to see a photo of your soap if you decide to make it. It has been hot and humid here in the UK this past week. I really don't do heat and humidity. Unfortunately we don't have air conditioning in the home because the extra hot spell is (thankfully) short lived but it depresses me beyond belief!!! I can't wait to see more of your videos and sketchbook posts too. I hope you have a lovely air conditioned weekend! :)

    1. Ha, yes, you should see the sunflower plants!

Heat and humidity sure can zap all energy. I hope you managed to stay cool despite having no air conditioning, Simone.

Hope you have a lovely week.

Thanks for the triptych shout out.
I've not been blogging much this summer, but life is full of goodness right now.

    1. Living life is more important than blogging. Especially in the summer. Glad to know that life is good.
