Getting Started with a Botanical Sketchbook -- My First Skillshare Class
It's here! My first Skillshare class.
Are you familiar with Skillshare? I realize I never introduced the site when I mentioned I was working on a class for it. Right now they offer over 7,000 classes (new ones are being added each day) and with a monthly subscription you get access to them all. The idea is that the classes are "bite sized" and allow you to learn at your own pace. Each class is designed around a project so you learn by doing.

I certainly learned a lot while I put together my class.
Did I feel entirely ready to get started? No.
Did I let it stop me? No.
Did I make a lot of mistakes along the way? Of course.
But I'm delighted with how my class turned out and can't wait to share it with you.
I think we need to let go of hesitation and fear. We need to jump in and do it. Whatever "it" may be. When we do, we often surprise ourselves by discovering that we're capable of more than we ever imagined possible.
My class certainly isn't perfect -- if I waited for perfection I'd never finish -- but I think it truly captures the essence of what I want to share with you. I used to think sketchbooks were scary things when in fact they aren't. Anyone can create in a sketchbook and the process should be joyful.

I'll help you choose a sketchbook that will be just right for you. We'll talk about what tools and media to try and how to overcome the fear of the blank page. I'll share some of my favorite ways to use a sketchbook and share examples of different types of pages. Then we'll spend some time discussing where to find inspiration and preparing to get started with the practice of working in a sketchbook. Finally, I'll take you through the step-by-step process of creating a couple botanical sketches.
When you're finished with this class I hope you will be filled with inspiration and excitement that will carry you into a continued art practice.

Hi Anne! This class looks wonderful! I hope many people sign up to it. Unfortunately PayPal isn't accepted and that would be my preferred method of payment. I will have to gain inspiration from the parts you share on the blog! I bought a new watercolour pad this week and a mechanical pencil and have already done a sketch! Have a lovely weekend. :)
