Joy on a Dreary Monday

The word dreary was made for this morning.

Gloomy.

Grey.

Misty.

Wet.

Spring feels like it's on its way.

While typing this just now I hear robins laughing outside my studio window.

Yesterday morning I noticed they'd returned from their winter vacation. Seeing and hearing them in the trees as I walked the dogs brought such gratitude and joy. "Welcome back," I called out loud.

My studio is getting more colorful each day as more and more of my orchid buds open.

orchids, moth orchid, phalaenopsis, amaryllis, indoor garden, houseplants, artist studio, Anne Butera, My Giant Strawberry

I try to take my time as I pass through my days. I try to pay attention. To notice. To savor.

Some days it's easier than others. There are always things for which to be thankful. I hope you see them, too.

Joy List Monday:

a weekly ritual
a reminder to stop and pay attention to the little beauties and graces that make life magical and to set aside time for gratitude each day

My list today:

  • a slow weekend with time for cleaning out another closet and for reading and sketching and cooking and for Sunday dinner at the farm
  • this book, a delight after a string of books I've had to slog through (have you read anything you've loved lately?)
  • kind words from a happy customer
  • progress on my trio of commissioned paintings
  • laughter
  • kitty antics and kitty snuggles
  • feeling my way with my new sketchbook and its unfamiliar paper
  • steaming mugs of green tea
sketchbook, colored pencils, butterflies, sketches, drawing, Anne Butera, My Giant Strawberry

What's on your list today?

  1. Love those butterflies, Anne! I'm thankful for a lovely day (yesterday) of thrift shopping and lunch with my best friend. She's someone I can laugh with, cry with. . .be real with. Hugs, Nancy

  2. I hope your weather is better today Anne! My joy list today includes blogging friendships, the sound of birds outside the craft room, towels drying on the outside washing line, going out of my comfort zone to a meeting in an area I am unfamiliar with and returning in the dark!, being busy making, doing and being. Wishing you a joyful week with all your lovely animals and not forgetting Matthias!!! :)

    1. It's been a weird weather week so far. Some sun. Thunderstorms. Wind. Today is sunny and windy. The temperatures have been up and down. Guess that's March for you.

I'm glad you ventured out of your comfort zone and I hope your meeting was inspiring and fun! Sounds like you've been savoring your days. :)

I can't wait till I can hang laundry up on the line again.

Have a great rest of your week!!

  3. Ack! That weather landed here today. I'm thankful for the soup cooking away in my slow cooker. I hope today you have better weather. I love your butterfly sketches so much. I'm glad you had a good weeken. I tried reading that book many months ago and felt it was too depressing at the time but it did come highly recommended so maybe I will give it another try.

    1. I hope that it didn't stick around. Weather's so changeable in March. (It's sunny today!!).

Thanks for what you said about my butterfly sketches. I'm not in love with this new sketchbook. The paper has a lovely texture, but even Microns seem to bleed through. Ah, well, I'll get used to it.

You're right that the book is a little dark (Alice Hoffman often is a bit dark), but the story becomes hopeful. Heartbreaking, but also beautiful.

I'd love to know what you've been reading and enjoying.

Have a lovely rest of your week.
