An Exhibit of My Houseplant Paintings
Happy Groundhog Day! It's frigidly cold here, but sunny, so I wasn't surprised when I heard that the groundhog saw his shadow. That's ok because I don't mind being being stuck in my studio with my plants and my paints.
I haven't written in depth about my recent paintings here for a while (not since this post), but if you're following me on Instagram you've seen that I continue to be on a roll painting houseplants. Good thing I have so many to choose from.
Most recently I finished a portrait of one of my jade plants.
Just in time to frame
and hang as part of an exhibit of my work.
I wanted this show to have a fairly tight theme and seeing as it's winter and houseplants are on my mind I chose only paintings inspired by my indoor garden.
It was hard to narrow it down to eight paintings.
I included some older pieces, like this one
(which also happens to be on this year's February page of my calendar).
and some, like the jade, that I recently finished. This begonia is another one:
Getting photographs was a bit hard with the green wall and the bright location. In person I think the paintings look great in this space.
The exhibit is at the McIntosh Memorial Library in my little town of Viroqua, Wisconsin. The library building is not quite two years old and is beautiful inside. (You might remember that I showed my art here in 2016). In the area that backs up to this gallery space there's a seating area with a fireplace. Yesterday was frigid and the fireplace was on, making things so cozy.
It's fun to see my paintings framed and hung together like this. I'm so grateful for my creative journey and for where it's led me. I'm so grateful for the encouragement and support from you, too. I wish that each of you could stop by and see my exhibit.
Have a lovely weekend!
