Joy List Monday: Snow and Savoring

It's been COLD here. And snowy. And I don't mind one bit.

The upstairs windows are decorated with frost

(only after I took this photo did I notice the heart and go back for another look)

and I've been decorating the downstairs windows with snowflakes.

Outside the snow is thick.

The birds at the feeders bring me joy each day

and remnants of my garden asleep beneath the snow remind me that winter is only temporary.

There is beauty in every season. It's up to us to notice it.

Joy List Monday:

a weekly ritual
a reminder to stop and pay attention to the little beauties and graces that make life magical and to set aside time for gratitude each day

My list today:
  • Blue skies and sunshine
  • Monday morning pancakes with peaches (canned by my parents' Amish friends) and whipped cream
  • Finishing up a crochet project
  • Taking time to just sit and read over the weekend
  • All your sweet comments on my studio tour last week
  • Painting
  • Discovering more orchid flower stems
  • Lots of cooking and eating over the snowy, cold weekend
  • Watching more Christmas movies (While You Were Sleeping and Shop Around the Corner -- I'd love to know your favorites)
  • Candles and incense
  • Baking cookies (a variation on this recipe)
  • (Finally) repotting my amaryllis bulbs and dreaming of coming flowers

What's on your list today?

    1. Oh, Shop Around the Corner ... I love that one.

Miracle on 34th Street is a favorite of mine.

I just love the frosty heart, what a special find.

      Merry Christmas my friend!!

      1. Hi, Carla. I love Miracle on 34th Street, too. It's been ages since I've watched it, though.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas! :)

    2. Looks so pretty and cozy Anne. I love your crochet project (blanket?). I guess it's all temporary right? Sounds like a lovely weekend.

      1. Thank you, Dana! The crochet project is a pillow cover (yes, I know, I mentioned working on them to you a LONG time ago). I was dragging my feet on finishing this second one, in part because I'm not so fond of weaving in all those ends. Ha!

Hope you're having a wonderful week leading up to Christmas!

    3. Gorgeous seasonal photos Anne. I wish we had snow! Today's joy list is catching up with blogs, most of Christmas gift shopping done, my husband saying my new haircut was 'cute' even though I hate it!, quietly stamping onto brown paper to make Christmas wrapping whilst listening to the radio. I hope you have a great week. :)

      1. Thank you, Simone! Maybe you'll get some snow in time for Christmas? Wish I could share some of ours. :)

Ugh, haircuts can be traumatic. I hope you grow to like yours as much as your husband does!

        Your wrapping paper sounds lovely.

Hope your week has been lovely, too!

    4. LOVE the colors in your crochet project, they remind me of beach glass! We've had such wintery days here in Vermont, much like you in Wisconsin. We'll surely have a white Christmas, eh? xo

      1. Thank you, Karen. I love blues and greens. I raided my stash for anything that I thought would work and since I was just making two pillows, it didn't really matter if I only had a small bit.

I was looking at the forecast the other day and it looked like we'd maybe have rain and freezing rain on Christmas. I hope they're wrong! Here's to a white Christmas for us both!

    5. We just watched While You Were Sleeping a couple of nights ago. Definitely one of our favorites. And we always enjoy A Christmas Story. I love the photographs of your garden dressed in white. So serene. The frosty heart and the little bird are so lovely. Have a great Christmas, Anne. xo

      1. Matthias had never seen it before and I managed to twist his arm into watching it. I've been really feeling like Christmas movies this year, very much in the holiday spirit. Maybe it's all the snow.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, too, Nancy!
